So disingenuous for men like Mayor Ted Wheeler to issue a statement that ” the Portland city Council stands unified in its belief that all people should have the right to choose if and when they carry a pregnancy ” All people? Only women carry a pregnancy.
Sounds like he represents so many men who are so eager to proclaim women’s right to have an abortion. Wonder why men like him are so adamant about abortion rights? They don’t carry a pregnancy. Think about it: IT GREATLY BENEFITS T-H-E-M ! Tell her she should have an abortion so I don’t have to take ANY responsibility for my part for getting her pregnant! NO responsibility at all. Let her bear the PAIN and any SUFFERING so it doesn’t interfere with MY life. Let her go through the cruel and painful procedure and end up living with the memory. Let her live with any left over remorse or guilt. Of course why wouldn’t men be a champion for abortion rights? It must give them a wonderful feeling to be so supportive!
Such a backhanded slap! How blatantly SELFISH. If you really care about women’s rights, Why didn’t you protect her in the first place? Why did she have to get pregnant? You could have prevented that. Now act like it’s her responsibility for YOUR irresponsibility.
As a Licensed counselor in private practice, you think I haven’t heard this ? To many guys with the burden of facing the responsibility of an unwanted child abortion is a godsend. I have heard them say when I asked them WHY they didn’t use protection, ” SHE CAN HAVE AN ABORTION” Believe me they are immensely relieved not to have the burden of an unwanted child and to have HER quickly take it off his hands.
That should enrage women. They are supporting you in getting rid of something they had some responsibility for causing and dumping the consequences of their behavior onto you. Women need to get a voice and demand that men be more respectful of you, take responsibility for their sexual behavior and be prepared for sexual encounters rather than leaving you in the position of having to abort.
Of course this works both ways. Women should also be responsible for their sexual behavior. But it makes sense that women would be more inclined to support abortion rights since it is their body , not his.
